Deep Dark Shine [min. 5.4.3.3.2]
Deep Dark Shine by Erkki-Sven Tuur is a 12-minute work for string orchestra. The musical structure of this piece is based on constantly evolving chords, with the violas playing a melody that slowly develops from the central pitch. The chords are based on a dark layer built up by double basses and cellos, over which a layer of violins flickers like a glowing cloud. Deep Dark Shine was commissioned by The Bridge Partners--Scottish Ensemble, Ensemble Resonanz, Trondheim Soloists and PLMF Trust -- with support from the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. It was first performed on 21 April 2022 by the Scottish Ensemble in Glasgow. The score is available for sale as part of the Peters Contemporary Library and the performance material is available for rent.
